Thomas Obliers (born October 21, 1967 ) is a German soccer coach and former soccer player .

Career

Obliers was active as a footballer for Hamborn 07 in the then third-class Oberliga Nordrhein .

After his active career, he coached several lower-class clubs. After being mediated by the former national player Martina Voss , Obliers initially became assistant coach at FCR 2001 Duisburg. In autumn 2006, head coach Dietmar Herhaus surprisingly resigned and Obliers became his successor. With his team he was runner-up in 2007. In the cup, the team reached the final, but lost to 1. FFC Frankfurt on penalties . - On February 10, Obliers and his assistant coach Patrick Jetten asked for an immediate termination of the contract. The reason was differences around the planned establishment of an overall sports management in the club.

For the 2008/09 season Obliers took over the women's team of SG Wattenscheid 09 , which was relegated to the 2nd Bundesliga. After the intended immediate return to the Bundesliga was a long way off and the Wattenscheid board had dismissed the coach of the men's team, he also took over the men's team of SG Wattenscheid 09 in the NRW league in April 2009 . From the 2009/10 season, Obliers coached the team of the women's Bundesliga club SC 07 Bad Neuenahr . On March 23, 2011 he was released from the head coach of the women's Bundesliga club SC 07 Bad Neuenahr.

During the 2011 Women's World Cup, Obliers was the sporting director of the Nigerian women's national soccer team .

In the summer of 2012, Obliers became the coach of the soccer players at Bayer 04 Leverkusen . His contract was last extended in spring 2016.

Obliers worked full-time as a measurement and control mechanic at Thyssen-Krupp until 2009 .
