The Kansallinen Liiga ( Finnish : National League ) is the top division in Finnish women's football . The league has existed since 1971 and was called SM-sarja until 2006 , then Naisten Liiga until 2019 .

The Kansallinen Liiga consists of ten teams in the 2018 season. In the course of a season that takes place within a calendar year, each team meets each other team twice. Then the first six teams play the championship round and the last four teams play the relegation round. The first of the championship round qualifies for the UEFA Women's Champions League , while the penultimate of the relegation round plays relegation and the last one is relegated to the second-rate Naisten Ykkönen .
