mode
Since the end of the 2008/09 season, the league has been playing in the calendar year, so that two championships were held in 2009.
During a championship year, which from 2012 to 2015 is divided into a final round and a second round with the Championship Group and Relegation Group , all twelve clubs of the SWPL initially meet only once based on a schedule set before the season . They play against teams in their own group once in their own stadium and once in the opponent's stadium. The top two qualify for the Champions League , and the bottom two were relegated to the Scottish Women's Football League , the second-highest division in Scottish women's football.
From the 2016 season, there will be a league structure that corresponds to the English league. The first division is divided into two divisions of eight teams each. Division 1 - divided into north and south groups - of the Scottish Women's Football League will form the 3rd level of Scottish Women's Football.
