Janne Johannes Saarinen (born February 28, 1977 in Espoo ) is a former Finnish football player . The defense and defensive midfielder , who made his debut for the Finnish national team in 2000 , has won two Norwegian championship titles throughout his playing career.

Career

Career start in Finland

Saarinen began his professional career at HJK . On October 3, 1993 he made his debut for the team from Helsinki in the duel against local rivals FinnPa in the Veikkausliiga . In the following years he was able to establish himself in the squad of the first division and won the Finnish Cup with the club in 1996.

After the end of the season, Saarinen moved to Allsvenskan for IFK Göteborg . Here he could not assert himself due to injury and returned to HJK. At his first professional stint, he again worked out a regular place and recommended himself for the Finnish national team, for which he made his debut on August 16 in a 3-1 victory over the Norwegian national team in Helsinki. In the same year he won the cup title again with HJK.

Stations abroad

Saarinen then left his home country again and joined Rosenborg BK in the Norwegian Tippeligaen . In the early stages of the 2001 season , he came on as a substitute, but was able to fight for a regular place from mid-May. At the end of the season he had contributed to winning the Norwegian championship title in 22 appearances and, following successes over FK Inter Bratislava in the qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League, had played in the group stage against Juventus Turin , Celtic Glasgow and FC Porto . The success in the championship could be repeated in the following season and Saarinen played in the duels with Ajax Amsterdam , Inter Milan and Olympique Lyon on the international stage.

In the summer of 2003, the Bundesliga club TSV 1860 München Saarinen piloted the Isar and paid 600,000 euros for the services of the Finnish national player, who also had an offer from league rival VfB Stuttgart . At first he was part of the regular formation under coach Falko Götz , but lost his place in the starting eleven in autumn after a hamstring and a groin injury. After 17 top division games in Germany, he left the Bundesliga after one season and moved to FC København in the Danish Super League for 200,000 euros .

Saarinen's stay in Copenhagen was unsuccessful, so in 2006 he decided to return to Finland. Here he played for Honka FC in his hometown of Espoo. In 2008 he moved abroad again and signed a contract with BK Häcken that was valid until the end of 2009 . With the club he made it to the Allsvenskan at the end of the second division season in 2008 . In mid-September 2009 Saarinen announced that he was returning to Finland. He signed a contract valid from January 2010 at his first professional station HJK. In April 2011, the 34-year-old finally ended his career as an active player after only five league games for the capital city club, after his career had taken him to clubs in Finland, Sweden, Norway, Germany and Denmark.
