Falko Götz (born March 26, 1962 in Rodewisch ) is a German soccer coach and former player . Most recently he coached FSV Frankfurt .

Player career

Götz started playing football in East Berlin at FC Vorwärts Berlin and after his delegation to Frankfurt (Oder) in 1971 he moved to the youth department of BFC Dynamo . At the BFC, he made the leap to the first men's team in 1980, for which he played 40 games in the GDR league until 1983 and scored twelve goals. He also became a selection player and had several assignments in the youth, junior and Olympic selection of the GDR.

On November 3, 1983, he sat down with Dirk Schlegel in the German embassy in Yugoslavia before the European Cup game at Partizan Belgrade . After the escape, he was banned by FIFA for one year due to the rules in force at the time. Exactly one year to the day after his escape, Götz played his first Bundesliga game in West Germany for Bayer Leverkusen on November 3, 1984 . He scored his first of 46 Bundesliga goals five weeks later in the 1: 2 away defeat against SV Waldhof Mannheim . In this game he also received his first yellow card in the Bundesliga. His greatest success with Leverkusen was winning the 1988 UEFA Cup . Bayer Leverkusen had lost 3-0 in the final first leg against Espanyol Barcelona . In the second leg, which the Werkself won on penalties, Götz scored the interim 2-0 with a diving header. However, his contract in Leverkusen was not extended.

With 1. FC Köln he was runner-up in 1989 and 1990 and vice-cup winner in 1991. With Galatasaray Istanbul he won the double in Turkey in 1993 and became Turkish champion in 1994. During this time he also played in the Champions League . In 1997 he was promoted to the Bundesliga with Hertha BSC.

In 2004 it became known through a study by Giselher Spitzer that Götz was affected by GDR doping and tested positive twice during his time in Berlin. According to Spitzer, the players received the preparations without their knowledge. Götz joined a group report.

Today Götz plays in the traditional Bayer Leverkusen team .

Coaching career

From 1997 to February 2002 Götz worked in the amateur and youth department of Hertha BSC . In the second half of the 2001/02 season, he temporarily trained the club's professionals. From March 12, 2003 to April 17, 2004 he was head coach of TSV 1860 Munich ; he was released six game days before the end of the season and replaced by Gerald Vanenburg . At the end of the season, TSV 1860 Munich was relegated. From July 1, 2004 he was the head coach of Hertha BSC. On April 10, 2007, he and his assistant coach Andreas Thom were dismissed for failure.

From December 15, 2008 to September 16, 2009 Götz was head coach at the third division Holstein Kiel . With the club he won the championship of the Regionalliga Nord at the end of the 2008/09 season and rose to the 3rd division. He was released without notice on September 16, 2009. He was accused of having hit the player Marco Stier several times on the forehead with his hand after a lost game against Eintracht Braunschweig . The Kiel labor court recognized this assault in the first instance as the reason for the termination without notice. In September 2010, both parties agreed on a settlement on appeal, according to which Holstein Kiel dropped all allegations against Götz and agreed to a severance payment of 750,000 euros.

In May 2011, the Vietnamese Football Association signed Götz as coach of the senior national team and the U-23. He was given a two-year contract, but was dismissed in December 2011 after disagreements with the Presidium. At the end of April 2013, he succeeded Karsten Baumann as the new coach of the second division club FC Erzgebirge Aue . After a good 2013/14 season, but a poor start to the 2014/15 season, he was released from his coaching duties on September 2, 2014. On June 30, 2015 1. FC Saarbrücken signed Götz as coach for the upcoming regional league season. On March 2, 2016, he resigned after disagreements with the club's management.

On April 11, 2016, the second division club FSV Frankfurt Götz signed up as head coach until the end of the season. He took over the post from the dismissed Tomas Oral . On May 15, 2016 Götz was relegated to the 3rd division with FSV Frankfurt , although he won the last game against TSV 1860 Munich 2-1.
