Demetrios of Thessaloniki , a Greek martyr from the 3rd or 4th century, is one of the most important saints of the Eastern Church , hence the first name Dimitrios (or its national variants, see below) in Greece , Russia , in the entire Balkans and very popular in Cyprus .
