Dimitris Horn ( Greek Δημήτρης Χορν , born March 9, 1921 in Athens ; † January 16, 1998 ibid) was a Greek actor and director.

Life

Dimitris Horn was born as the son of the dramaturge Pantelis Horn. He studied at the school of the National Theater in Athens and made his stage debut in 1941. After the end of the occupation, he founded an ensemble with Vaso Manolidou and Mary Aroni.

Edith Piaf, who was six years her senior, was in love with Horn, but the love remained unfulfilled. She wrote to him in a letter dated September 20, 1946:

“I love you as I have never loved before, Taki, don't let my heart die! [...] I would like to live very close to you, it seems to me that I could make you happy. "

Horn later married the artist and shipping company heiress Anna Goulandris (1921–1988).

After the end of the junta, Horn was temporarily director of the state broadcaster ERT from 1974 to 1975 .

At first, Horn became known for theater classics, and later for avant-garde films. Although he only appeared in ten films, these are considered milestones in Greek cinema, including The Counterfeit Coin (1954), The Girl in Black (1956) and We Have Only One Life (1958).

Dimitris Horn Prize

In memory of Dimitris Horn, the Dimitris Horn Prize has been awarded annually since 2000 to a young theater actor who graduated from drama school up to five years beforehand. The award consists of a golden cross, which each award winner passes on to the next at the beginning of the following year.
