society

In 2004 he was regularly used for Spartak in the Premjer-Liga in the first half of the season, but was loaned back to the 2nd division in the summer for the rest of the season, this time to FK Chimki . In 2005 he was eliminated from the Spartak squad, but this time on loan to a first division club - Schinnik Yaroslavl - his performance there was quite modest with only four goals; when Pogrebnjak did not win a regular place at Spartak after this season, he left the club in a dispute to go to Tom Tomsk .

He made his final breakthrough with Tom Tomsk; with 13 goals he was the third top scorer in the Russian league and was also appointed to the national team in the summer after the 2006 World Cup .

For the 2007 season he moved to Zenit St. Petersburg, where he formed a successful storm duo with Andrei Arshavin , who scored a total of 21 goals for Zenit's first championship title since 1984, and with one goal each from both strikers, Zenit also won the Russian Supercup in 2008.

Pogrebnjak became internationally known for his numerous goals in the 2007/08 UEFA Cup - he scored ten goals in the competition like Munich's Toni - he attracted attention, especially in the first two knockout rounds: he scored in against Villarreal The first and second leg was the only goal for Zenit, against Olympique Marseille he was again the dominant player of the second leg in St. Petersburg and scored both goals for a 2-0 victory and enabled Zenit to reach the quarter-finals. He won the UEFA Cup with Zenit in the final against Glasgow Rangers at the end of the 2007/08 season .

For the 2012/13 season he moved within the league to Reading FC . From 2015 the striker was back under contract with FK Dynamo Moscow in his home country . In 2018 he played for FK Tosno , after which he moved to Ural Yekaterinburg .

Fine for criticizing the Ari nomination

In an interview with the daily Komsomolskaya Pravda , Pogrebnyak criticized the appointment of the Brazilian-born striker Ari from FK Krasnodar for the Sbornaja : “It is ridiculous when a black player plays for the Russian national team. ... I am against naturalization. It doesn't need that. I don't understand why Ari was given a Russian passport. ”According to the testimony, the Russian Federation fined him 250,000 rubles and suspended him. Should he again express himself racist, Pogrebnyak would be banned from all Russian competitions for the rest of the season. Pogrebnyak apologized and stated that he would not appeal the judgment.

National team

In his first appearance for the Russian team in August 2006, Pogrebnjak scored the winning goal to make it 1-0 against Latvia , but was only used in one of eight competitive games in 2007, the embarrassing 1-2 against Israel . Although he was not set up for the first two preparatory games in 2008 despite the absence of the two regular strikers Arshavin (suspension) and Syrjanow (injury) and there are two to three similar center forwards in the extended squad of the Russian selection, Pogrebnjak was in the Russian squad for the EURO 2008 , but shortly before the start of the competition he was so badly injured in a preparatory game that he was canceled for the tournament and was replaced by Oleg Ivanov in the squad . It has not been taken into account since 2012.
