Jonatan Soriano Casas (born September 24, 1985 in El Pont de Vilomara i Rocafort ) is a Spanish football player who has been under contract with FC Girona since August 2019 . The player is also the record scorer of his former club FC Red Bull Salzburg .

Career

Jonatan Soriano began his career with the Espanyol Barcelona second team at the age of 15 . After four years he signed a professional contract and was loaned to the former Segunda División club UD Almería . He returned to Espanyol for the 2006/07 season, did not prevail at the first attempt and was awarded again for the second half of the season, this time to Polideportivo Ejido . He spent the 2007/2008 season again at Espanyol and was regularly used for the first time. The first half of the following season he played for Espanyol, in the second half of the season on loan for Albacete Balompié .

2009 moved to Soriano FC Barcelona B . With the reserve team of FC Barcelona , he rose to the Segunda División in his first season . He was the top scorer of his team with 18 goals. In the 2010/11 season he was the league shooter king with 32 goals in 36 games. His team reached third place this season, the teams' best placement to date.

On January 19, 2012, Soriano signed a contract with FC Red Bull Salzburg until June 2015 . Salzburg had already sought a commitment in the summer of 2011, but this failed due to the veto of the coach Ricardo Moniz , as Alan had already been a similar player in the squad. He scored his first goal for RB Salzburg in a 2-1 home win against SC Wiener Neustadt . He finished the season with eleven appearances and three goals. In the following season ( 2012/13 ) he finally prevailed under the new coach Roger Schmidt , scored 26 goals in 33 Bundesliga games and prepared seven more. At the end of the season he ranked second in the scorers list behind Philipp Hosiner (32 goals). In the 2013/14 season he scored 31 goals and 17 assists in 28 games. This made him the top scorer and top scorer in the Bundesliga. In addition, he won the double again with FC Red Bull Salzburg after 2012. In the scorers list in the ÖFB Cup, he was in second place (five goals) behind his teammate Alan (six goals). In the 2014/15 season he defended the double with RB Salzburg and was again top scorer and top scorer with 31 goals and 13 assists in 32 games in the Bundesliga. He was also the top scorer in the ÖFB Cup for the first time with seven goals and was named “Player of the Season” for the second time. However, Soriano again failed to make it into the Champions League with his team . In the Europa League , his team survived the group stage and had to admit defeat to Villarreal FC in the next round . At the end of the tournament, Soriano ended up in fifth place in the shooting list with six goals. At the end of this season he posted a total of 46 goals and 20 assists in 49 games.

In the following championship season 2015/16 he won the cup and the championship for the third time in a row with the team. Soriano was again the top scorer in both competitions. On March 12, 2016, he scored his 109th goal in his 125th game in the Austrian Bundesliga for Red Bull Salzburg, beating the record of a foreign player from Zlatko Kranjcar , who had scored 108 goals in 213 games. However, RB Salzburg qualified neither for the Champions League nor for the Europa League . Soriano was only featured in one qualifying match due to an injury. In summary, the striker made 34 games with 32 goals and 14 assists across all competitions.

His contract ran until June 30, 2018 and included an option for an additional year.

On February 27, 2017, he moved to Beijing Guoan in China , where he signed a two-year contract. In two years in China, he played 31 games in the Chinese Super League , in which he scored 25 goals. After his contract ended, he moved to Saudi Arabia to join al-Hilal in January 2019 . For the capital club, he played eight games in the Saudi Professional League , in which he scored three goals.

In August 2019 he returned to Spain and switched to the second division club FC Girona .

Catalan football selection

Soriano went through all the Spanish youth national teams up to U-21 . In December 2012 he was called up to the Catalan football team for the friendly against Nigeria on January 2, 2013 . In March 2014, the ÖFB examined the possibility of naturalizing Soriano together with his Salzburg strike partner Alan and thus obtaining the right to play for the Austrian national team for both of them. Since Soriano had already played four games for the Spanish U-21 national team - also all competitive games - this plan failed.
