Vágner Love , real name Vágner Silva de Souza (born June 11, 1984 in Rio de Janeiro ), is a Brazilian soccer player . The striker has been under contract with Corinthians São Paulo since January 2019 . Vágner Love played most of his career in Russia at CSKA Moscow , for which he - with three interruptions - was active from 2004 to 2013.

Vágner Love's football career began at Palmeiras São Paulo . For the club, the striker scored 19 goals in the 2003 season and was promoted to the Brazilian Série A with the club . In the current 2004 season (now with Palmeiras in the highest class in Brazil) the attacker moved to CSKA Moscow .

Vágner Love led his new team CSKA Moscow to victory in the UEFA Cup in their first year . He scored his team’s third goal in CSKA’s 3-1 win over Sporting Lisbon in the UEFA Cup final in Lisbon . In 2008 he was named the best player in the Premjer league by the coaches and was the top scorer with 20 goals. In 2009, he was the top scorer in the UEFA Cup with eleven goals , although he and his team were eliminated in the round of 16 against Shakhtar Donetsk .

On August 28, 2009, Vágner Love returned to Palmeiras São Paulo on loan for family reasons. On January 14, 2010, he was released from the loan contract originally dated July 31, 2010 and one day later by CSKA Moscow until July 2010 to Flamengo Rio de Janeiro .

After the loan contract with Flamengo expired, Vágner Love returned to CSKA Moscow in August 2010. In the Europa League game against FC Lausanne-Sport in September 2010, he scored two goals in a 3-0 win. In January 2012 he moved again to Flamengo in Rio de Janeiro. Although he had signed a three-year contract there until December 31, 2014, he moved back to CSKA Moscow after just one year in January 2013.

In July 2013, Vágner Love signed a contract with the Chinese first division club Shandong Luneng Taishan . In February 2015, his contract was terminated.

On February 6, 2015, he signed a contract with the Brazilian first division club Corinthians São Paulo, which was valid until June 30, 2016 . After almost a year in Brazil, he joined the French first division club AS Monaco in January 2016 .

After the contract expired, Vágner Love went to Alanyaspor in Turkey . With 23 goals in 28 league games, he was the top scorer in the 2016/17 Süper Lig season .

In January 2018, I moved to Beşiktaş Istanbul and a year later back to Corinthians São Paulo .

In June 2020, Vágner Love announced another change. He went to FK Qairat Almaty in Kazakhstan .

National team

The striker made his debut for the national team at the 2004 Copa America when he came on as a substitute in the group game against Costa Rica . This was his only use in this tournament; in the end, the team won the Copa America.

After moving to Russia, Vágner Love was initially no longer appointed to the Seleçao. After the 2006 World Cup, the new national coach Carlos Dunga used him in a friendly against Norway on August 16, 2006 and nominated him for further games. In 2007 he won the 2007 Copa America with Brazil . He was used in all six games from the start and contributed one goal.

Vágner Love is married and has two sons.

He got his stage name Love in his youth from his teammates at Palmeiras São Paulo because he almost got kicked out of the team after being caught by his coach with a girl. The Frankfurt pop rock band Wagner Love named itself after him.
