The Premjer League 2008 was the 17th season of the Russian top division in football. It started on March 14, 2008 with the game Terek Grozny against Krylya Sovetov Samara and ended on November 22, 2008. From May to July, the championship was interrupted because of the 2008 European Championship . With three game days to go, Rubin Kazan was the champions.

16 teams played the Russian football champions on 30 match days. Each team played twice against each other team, once in their own stadium and once in the opponent's stadium. This resulted in a total of 240 games. For a win you got three points, for a tie both teams got one point. Whoever was able to collect the most points during the season became the Russian football champion.

Before the season

Zenit St. Petersburg started the season as the defending champion . The last two clubs of the previous season , FK Kuban Krasnodar and FK Rostow , had to relegate to the 1st division and were replaced by Schinnik Yaroslavl and Terek Grozny .

    After the season

    In addition to the champion Rubin Kazan , the runner-up CSKA Moscow also took part in the 2009/10 UEFA Champions League . Dynamo Moscow started qualifying for this competition. Amkar Perm , Zenit St. Petersburg and Krylja Sowetow Samara took part in qualifying for the 2009/10 UEFA Europa League .

    The two last placed ( Schinnik Yaroslavl and Lutsch-Energija Wladiwostok ) had to play in the 1st division in 2009 . FK Kuban Krasnodar and FK Rostov were only allowed to participate in the Premjer League again a year after their relegation, as they finished in the first two places in the 1st division in 2008.
