The PFK Krylja Sowetow Samara ( Russian ПфК "Крылья Советов" Самара , German "Professional Football Club ' Wing of the Soviets ' Samara" ) is a Russian football club from the city of Samara , founded in 1942 and part of the Russian Air Force . The club colors are blue and white.
history
Soviet Union
The team was formed on April 12, 1942. On July 30, 1944, she made her debut in the Cup of the USSR . The first match in the first Soviet football league played Krylya Sowetov on April 21, 1946 in Alma-Ata . The team played between 1946 and 1969 for up to two years in the top division of the Soviet Union , but then rose and remained in second class until 1980 with the exception of four years in the late 1970s . In 1980 there was even relegation to the third-rate Wtoraja League , where the team stayed until the 1985 and 1987 seasons until the end of the USSR. Overall, Krylya Sovetov took part in 48 Soviet football championships (including 26 in the top division) and 43 trophies.
Russia
The team from Samara was one of the founding members of the newly created Russian Supreme League after the collapse of the Soviet Union . In the 1992 season, the team occupied 14th place in the table in the relegation round and narrowly escaped relegation.
The team from Samara had their best season in 2004 . With the third place the best table placement in the Russian championship was achieved. In addition, Krylya Sovetov was in the final of the national soccer cup, which was lost 1-0 to the Chechen club Terek Grozny in the capital's Lokomotive Stadium on May 29, 2004.
In the 2012/13 season , the club saved itself to 14th place in the table (relegation place). In the relegation, Samara met Spartak Nalchik and secured relegation with two wins. In 2014 Samara was relegated to Torpedo Moscow again , was defeated by the capital city club and relegated to the second-class 1st football division for the first time in its history . In June 2014, Belgian Franky Vercauteren took over the post of chief trainer at Krylya Sowetov. One match day before the end of the 2014/15 season, Krylya Sowetov secured promotion to the Russian House of Lords.
On the last day of the 2016/17 season , Krylja slipped into the relegation zone of the table and was relegated for the second time. As a result, the Russian Andrei Tichonow was hired as the new head coach in June 2017 . One match day before the end of the 2017/18 season , the club secured immediate promotion to the Premjer league. In the 2018/19 season , the club saved itself to 13th place in the table (relegation place). In the relegation, Samara met FK Nizhny Novgorod and secured relegation after 3: 1 and 0: 1.
Stadion
FK Krylja Sowetow Samara played its home games in the 32,990-seat Metallurg Stadium in Samara , which was opened in 1957. In April 2018, the Kosmos-Arena was opened with 44,807 seats, replacing the Metallurg-Stadion. It was built for the 2018 World Cup .
European Cup balance sheet
On July 6, 2002, the team played their first game at international level when the Latvian team FC Dinaburg was defeated twice in the second round of the Intertoto Cup . In the third round, Krylja Sowetow failed against Dutch representative Willem II Tilburg after a home win 3-1 and a subsequent away defeat 0-2 due to the away goals rule.
Due to the good performance in the 2004 season , the club was allowed to participate in the second qualifying round for the 2005/06 UEFA Cup . First, BATE Baryssau was defeated from Belarus. In the subsequent first round, Krylja Sowetow failed as in 2002 due to the away goals rule against a Dutch team, this time at AZ Alkmaar .
The sixth place in the table from the 2008 season enabled the club its third participation in a European cup. In the third qualifying round of the newly created 2009/10 UEFA Europa League , the club faced Irish team St Patrick's Athletic and was again eliminated from the competition due to the away goals rule.
