The Kosmos-Arena ( Russian Космос Арена ; also Samara-Arena in Russian Самара Арена ) is a football stadium in the Russian city of Samara , which was built for the 2018 World Cup . The arena is the venue of the Krylja Sowetow Samara football club from the second-class 1st football division . The football arena has 44,807 seats for visitors and replaced the Metallurg Stadium as the home of Krylya Sovetov . The authorities announced expected construction costs of 285 million euros for their design at the end of 2012.
location
In the application submitted to FIFA, an island with little infrastructure south of the city of Samara was specified as the arena location . So there wasn't even a bridge at that time.
In response to criticism, the planned stadium was moved to the north within the city limits. Original planning was based on an area of 27 ha , but this was initially increased to 240 ha and then to 930 ha. The decisions to enlarge the area were made without consulting the local population. Stadiums between 18 and 24 hectares in size are common for FIFA.
history
Construction of the stadium began in 2014 and should last until 2017. Due to construction delays, the stadium could only be opened in spring 2018.
On April 27, 2018, the arena received the operating license before the construction work was completed, just in time for the first test and league game by Krylja Sowetow Samara in the World Cup stadium on April 28 in front of 14,017 visitors against FK Fakel Voronezh (2: 1 ). With the Kosmos-Arena, the last venue of the soccer world championship received its operating license and is ready for the tournament.
