Roni (born April 28, 1977 in Aurora , Tocantins , actually Roniéliton Pereira dos Santos ) is a former Brazilian football player .

Career

In his youth, Roni last played for Vila Nova FC before he was discovered and signed by the traditional club FC São Paulo in 1996 . At that time, however, the club was in a very bad financial position and even had to be temporarily closed for security reasons. After just a few months, Roni moved on to Fluminense Rio de Janeiro , where he played 4 seasons. In 2001 he went abroad for the first time to Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia. During the season he returned to Fluminense to play there until the end of the 2002 season. Then the Brazilian moved to Russia to Rubin Kazan . The club was promoted from the second to the first Russian league in the preseason. In its first premjer league season, the club managed a surprising 3rd place in the table and qualified for the UEFA Cup . In the second half of the following season Roni was loaned to the league competitor Krylja Sowetow Samara . During the 2005 season, the Brazilian returned to his homeland and signed with the Goiás EC . In the end, the club reached 3rd place in the table, the best placement in the club's history to date.

But the Wandervogel Roni only stayed with his club for a few months and within the next few months he switched to Atlético Mineiro , Flamengo Rio de Janeiro and Cruzeiro Belo Horizonte . In the 2008 season, the Brazilian center forward played in the Japanese J. League . There first at the Yokohama F. Marinos club and then from August at Gamba Osaka . With the last named club, he won the AFC Champions League in addition to the Kaiser Cup and thus his first major international title. After these successes Roni went back to Brazil, where he played for FC Santos . Again the striker stayed with his club for only six months and moved to Fluminense Rio de Janeiro in July 2009 , for whom he had already played twice before. In February 2010, the striker returned to the home of his career and moved to Vila Nova FC . He was discovered in his junior department almost 14 years earlier. With the men's team of his youth club he played in the second Brazilian league, the Série B .

National team

In 1999 Roni played a total of 5 games for the Brazilian national soccer team under the then national coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo and scored 2 goals. He played in the 1999 FIFA Confederations Cup with stars like Dida , Emerson , Zé Roberto , Ronaldinho and Serginho . In the final against Mexico he was substituted on at half-time and was able to equalize to 2-2 just two minutes after the restart. In the end, Mexico won 4-3.
