The FK Orenburg ( Russian Футбольный клуб Оренбург ) is a football club from the Russian city ​​of Orenburg .

history

The association was founded in 1976 as Gasowik (Russian Газовик ). Until the collapse of the Soviet Union , the team always played in the third highest division of the USSR. From 1992 to 1993 Gasowik took part in the championship of the 2nd division . But rose to the fourth level , where the club spent a total of four seasons. When the third division was dissolved in 1997, the team was added to the 2nd division . In 2010 after winning the championship in the Ural-Powolschje relay of the 2nd division, the first promotion to the 1st division could be celebrated. After only one season, Gasowik had to move into the third division, but managed to get promoted again in the following season. In 2015, the semi-finals of the Russian Cup were reached for the first time , but they were lost on penalties against Lokomotiv Moscow . Four game days before the end of the 2015/16 season , Gasowik secured his first promotion to the Russian Premier League .

On May 25, 2016 the club was renamed FK Orenburg.

In 2016/17 , the team landed on a relegation spot and were relegated from the Premjer League after two goalless draws and a subsequent penalty shoot-out against SKA-Energija Khabarovsk . As a result, the Georgian Temur Kezbaia was hired as the new head coach in June 2017 . One match day before the end of the 2017/18 season , the club secured immediate promotion to the Premjer league.

Stadion

The club plays its home games in the 4,800-seat Gasowik Stadium , which was built in 2002. It has been modernized since 2014 so that it should have a capacity of 10,500 spectators. Thus, the venue should meet the minimum requirements of the Russian Premier League , which stipulate a capacity of 10,000 spectators.
