Michal Ďuriš (born June 1, 1988 in Uherské Hradiště , Czechoslovakia ) is a Slovak national football player . The striker has played for Slovakia since September 2012 and has been under contract with the Russian club FK Orenburg since January 2017 . He currently plays for the Cypriot first division club Anorthosis Famagusta .

Career

society

Ďuriš went to FK Dukla Banská Bystrica at the age of 14, where he first played in the youth teams and from 2005 also in the first team. In 2010 he moved to the Czech first division club Viktoria Pilsen with whom he became champion straight away . This was the club's first championship title after winning the Czech Cup for the first time in the previous season. As champions, they also won the Supercup , but only on penalties , where he converted the first. Through the championship, the club was qualified for the first time for the UEFA Champions League , where the group stage was reached. Here they finished third behind defending champions FC Barcelona and AC Milan , through which they were qualified for the round of 32 of the UEFA Europa League. Here they lost after a 1-1 home game the second leg against FC Schalke 04 with 1: 3 after extra time. In the league they could not defend the title, but were third but qualified for the second qualifying round of the Europa League 2012/13. With five goals, he played a key role in ensuring that Pilsen reached the group stage in which the team, as group winners, left Atlético Madrid behind and advanced to the round of 16. But then Fenerbahçe Istanbul was stronger there. In the championship , however, they were able to repeat the success of 2011. With that they were qualified for the 2nd qualifying round of the Champions League 2013/14. With two goals he had a small part in making them reach the group stage . In this, however, they had no chance against the defending champions FC Bayern Munich and Manchester City and only won the last game against CSKA Moscow . With this victory they finished third and were able to continue playing in the UEFA Europa League round of 32, where they eliminated Shakhtar Donetsk , but then failed in the round of 16 at Olympique Lyon . In the league they lost the title to Sparta Prague , but were still qualified as runners-up for the third qualifying round of the 2014/15 Europa League. Here Pilsen failed, as did the league competitor FK Mladá Boleslav , to whom he was loaned for the 2014/15 season. With three goals in the second qualifying round he had ensured that Boleslav reached the third round against Olympique Lyon. For the 2015/16 season he returned to Pilsen, was the second best goalscorer in the league with 16 goals and thus played a significant role in the renewed championship. At the beginning of 2017 he switched to the Russian club FK Orenburg and only one year later the loan to Anorthosis Famagusta in Cyprus . He has been under contract with the Cypriots since July 2018.

National team

Born in Uherské Hradiště , on the border between today's Czech Republic and Slovakia , Ďuriš played in the first and last three qualifying games for the 2011 U-21 European Championship . With the 1: 4 home defeat against Norway in the last game, in which he received the yellow-red card in the 49th minute when the score was 0: 1 , the Slovaks gambled away the group victory and thus also the qualification for the playoffs they missed as the ninth-best runner-up in the group.

Almost two years later he came on August 15, 2012 in a 3-1 friendly game against Denmark for his first appearance in the senior national team of Slovakia when he came on in the second half. He was used regularly in the next few years and made six appearances in qualifying for the 2014 World Cup . However, the Slovaks only finished third behind Greece and Bosnia-Herzegovina, twelve points behind .

It went better in qualifying for the Euro 2016 , where he was used in six games, u. a. in a 2-1 win against defending champions Spain . After the Slovaks had qualified for a European Championship finals for the first time, he scored his first two international goals on November 13, 2015 in a 3-2 win against Switzerland to 1-0 and 2-0. Four days later he scored the goal against Iceland to make it 3-1.

On May 16, 2016, he was appointed by national coach Ján Kozák to the preliminary squad with 27 players for the European Championship finals. In a 3-1 win against world champions Germany on May 29, he scored the goal to make it 2-1. A day later he was nominated for the final squad. He was in the starting line-up for the Slovaks' first EM game, which they lost 2-1 to the Welsh, who were also playing their first EM game. He was replaced in the 61st minute, as was Patrik Hrošovský . One minute later, Ondrej Duda , one of the two substitute players, scored the goal for the 1-1 equalizer. In the game against Russia he came on as a substitute in the final quarter of an hour when the score was 2-0. He then paused against England at the end of the group round, but returned to the starting line-up in the round of 16. The team lost to Germany and was eliminated.

In the qualification for the 2018 World Cup , which began after the EM , he was used in six of the ten games. As the worst runner-up in the group, the Slovaks missed the World Cup finals. In the 2018/19 UEFA Nations League he had only one appearance in the only win, the 4-1 against group winners Ukraine . In qualifying for the 2020 European Football Championship , he was used in five of the eight group games. In the end it was only enough for 3rd place. But since the opponents in the Nations League were able to qualify directly for the European Championship, the Slovaks still have the chance to qualify via the playoffs in March 2020.
