The FK Nizhny Novgorod ( Russian Футбольный Клуб Нижний Новгород , Futbolny Klub Nizhny Novgorod ) is a Russian football club from Nizhny Novgorod . It was founded in 2007 and plays in the 1st division .

history

The club was founded in 2007 on the basis of the amateur team "Telma-Wodnik", which only played matches in the regional championship. On May 11, 2007 a contract was signed with the city's other football club "Volga" after players who did not play in the regular team play for FK Nizhny Novgorod. In return, the club had to add the addition "Volga-D" to its name. In the first season (2007) in the 4th Russian league at the end of the third place in the group "Privolsche" was achieved and thus the club rose to the 2nd division in the Ural-Powolschje group. With the rise in professional football, the contract expired. The 2008 season got off to a less good start. But in the second half of the season, the set goal of finishing in the top three was achieved with a series of 9 wins. Due to the financial crisis, a number of clubs could not play in the 1st division. Therefore, FK Nizhny Novgorod was offered to play in the first division, although they had not achieved the required first place.

After the financing was secured by the mayor of the city Wadim Bulavino, the club accepted the offer. The club therefore played in the first division in the 2009 season and stayed there after 13th place and two third places until the 2011/12 season. Thereafter, the club was revoked on June 20, 2012, the professional license due to enormous debts and lack of security. Then the association merged with Volga Nizhny Novgorod .

The club changed its name twice in the first year:

  • January-May 2007: FK Nizhny Novgorod
  • May-December 2007: Nizhny Novgorod-Volga-D
  • from December 2007: FK Nizhny Novgorod
