The Russian Football Cup , ( Russian Кубок России по футболу ), is the national cup competition for club teams in Russian football . It has been held since the 1992/93 season. Teams from the top three divisions take part in the competition, which is hosted by the Russian Football Association , with higher-class teams joining later. Besides the Premjer League , it is the most important football competition in the country. The winner of the cup is allowed to participate in the play-off round for the UEFA Europa League the following season .

The cup is carried out in a knockout system . If there is still no winner in a game after 90 minutes, extra time follows and then, if necessary, a penalty shoot-out. There are no return or replay matches. From the introduction of the competition to 2008, the final was always held in a Moscow stadium; since 2009 it has been taking place in different locations. The record winner is Lokomotiv Moscow with a total of eight titles. The current title holder is Zenit Saint Petersburg .
