history
Before the construction of the central stadium from 1900, there was a cycling track , the Velodrom, on the site . Then from 1928 the regional stadium and from 1936 the Metallurg des Ostens stadium .
The old central stadium was built from 1953 to 1957. It served, among other things, as a venue for four winter spartakiads of the Soviet Union and for the speed skating all-around world championship for women in 1959. Since it was built, the stadium has been rebuilt several times. B. modernized from 2006 to 2010. The facade of the stadium was retained with each renovation . The stadium was built in the neoclassicism typical of the Soviet Union . The grand opening after the renovation took place on August 19, 2011.
The central stadium was completely rebuilt between 2015 and 2018 for the 2018 World Cup. The new roof construction is reminiscent of the Estádio Nacional de Brasília Mané Garrincha , the 2014 World Cup stadium in Brasília . The historical facade was preserved. The most striking feature are the additional steel stands behind the goals, which protrude far out of the stadium and are located in the open air. A concept that was implemented at the Arena Corinthians in São Paulo for the 2014 World Cup . After the World Cup tournament, the stadium's capacity will be reduced for use by the Ural Yekaterinburg Association.
On April 1, 2018, Ural Yekaterinburg received Rubin Kazan on matchday 24 for a league game in the converted central stadium. In front of 18,218 spectators, the two teams parted with a 1-1 draw. The event went smoothly and without any problems.
