The Otkrytije Arena ( Russian Открытие Арена ) or the Spartak Stadium is a football stadium in the Russian capital Moscow . The stadium, which was inaugurated in 2014, offers 45,360 spectators (5,630 business seats and 48 boxes ) and is the first home ground of the Spartak Moscow football club .

prehistory

The Russian record champions Spartak Moscow, unlike their local rivals, never had their own stadium and played their home games in different stadiums: first on the Lokomotiv Moscow square , later in the Dynamo Stadium and in the Eduard Strelzow Stadium (home stadium from Torpedo Moscow , in the meantime also from FK Moscow ), since 1956 finally in the Olympic Stadium Luzhniki , which is considered the national stadium.

Unlike the other Moscow clubs, Spartak was not sponsored by any ministry or department of the party during the Soviet era , so that it was only after the political change in 1991 that plans to build a stadium of their own could be considered. The first steps in this direction were taken in 1994. The association was given a site near the Botanical Garden by the city administration , but after successful protests by environmentalists and local residents, they had to look for another location.

The construction of the stadium was delayed further and further as a result. Since the plans for a pure football arena have now become more concrete, the size of the stadium was also discussed in addition to the question of a suitable site. The first drafts envisaged around 65,000 seats, but those in charge of the club and city administration finally agreed in 2001 on an arena concept with 52,000 spectators in a central location. However, this attempt also failed, as the lease of 30 million US dollars required by the property owner, the exhibition company WWZ , went far beyond Spartak's possibilities.

In 2006, with the support of the main sponsor Lukoil, an affordable site was found near the former Tushino airfield outside Moscow. The new stadium, designed by the Dortmund architects ar.te.plan, should be completed by the German construction company Hochtief by 2009 . The project envisaged that the completed stadium should have a restaurant for 2,000 guests as well as an adjoining sports and event area with 12,000 seats in addition to the football operation. B. can be used for tennis, handball or basketball tournaments and music concerts. However, this project was discarded because the construction costs were too high and the stadium that was finally built was developed by AECOM . Completion had to be postponed initially to 2012, most recently to July 24, 2014, both in the wake of the global economic crisis and because of the delays in obtaining building permits. According to the new project, the indoor arena will be a single unit that will not be built until later.

The new Spartak Stadium was one of the venues for the 2018 World Cup in Russia and in this context was also connected to Line 7 of the Moscow Metro .

Vladimir Putin opened the new football arena on August 27, 2014. A few days later, on September 5, the first football match took place in Spartak's new venue with the friendly match against FK Red Star Belgrade (1: 1) in front of 37,734 spectators. The first goal scorer was Dmitri Kombarov .

On February 19, 2013, the club announced that Bank Otkrytije ( German for  “opening” or “discovery” ) had signed a sponsorship agreement with the club for a period of around 30 million US dollars over a period of six years .

Services for spectators

In the stadium there is a navigation aid from volunteers, childcare facilities and a lost and found office. Two sectors with 50 places each are reserved for people with disabilities. This part of the arena is equipped with ramps and lifts.

Security in the stadium

The video surveillance system, the video identification of the fans and the equipment for customs controls were installed in the stadium for the 2018 World Cup. The security measures were developed by the Organizing Committee of the 2018 World Cup, the Ministry of the Interior and the domestic secret service FSB together with the stadium services.
