The Sochi Olympic Stadium ( Russian Олимпийский стадион "Фишт" , Olympic Stadium " Fish " ; named after the mountain) is located in the Adler district of the city of Sochi on the Russian Black Sea coast . The stadium, which can hold 48,000 spectators, was the venue for the 2018 World Cup. Since 2018, the newly founded football club FK Sochi , currently in the Premjer League , has been based in the 2014 Olympic Stadium.
history
The opening, closing and medal ceremonies took place in the stadium at the 2014 Winter Olympics . It was also one of four venues for the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup and also one of twelve venues for the 2018 FIFA World Cup .
For the soccer world championship, the stadium was rebuilt for over 50 million euros and expanded to 48,000 seats. The construction cost a total of around 700 million euros . As there is no soccer club in the area , the Russian national soccer team will be the only user of the stadium. Training camps and international matches are planned.
In the 2017 Russian Cup final on May 2 of that year, Lokomotiv Moscow defeated the Ural Yekaterinburg team 2-0 in front of 24,500 spectators in the “Fisht” Olympic Stadium .
The construction of the stadium
- According to initial estimates, the construction would cost Russia 1.7 billion euros in 2006. The development of the architectural design was carried out by the company "Populous", which specializes in the design of stadiums and, among other things, was involved in the redesign of Soccer City in Johannesburg for the 2010 World Cup .
- In 2008 the land was bought and the areas for the construction of the Olympic complex cleared.
- In 2010 the construction of the "Fischt" stadium began. The symbolic capsule was placed to mark the start of construction. It was labeled "Believe in your strength and together we will win".
- In 2011, the original project was changed - as some sources claim, at the request of the director of the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games, Konstantin Ernst.
- In 2013 the construction of the stadium was completed and it was put into operation later than the other Olympic sports facilities.
safety
Two thousand cameras are in use in the stadium during the 2018 World Cup matches. 600 employees of the disaster control ministry are assigned to protect the stadium.
Design features
The playing area is 105 m × 68 m. The stadium has four grandstands: two open front grandstands and two lateral, covered stands. The roof over the western and eastern stands consists of translucent ethylene-tetrafluoroethylene copolymer (ETFE). The stadium meets the criteria for category 4 of the UEFA Stadium Infrastructure Regulations .
