The Iceberg Ice Skating Palace ( Russian Дворец Зимнего Спорта Айсберг ) is a multifunctional hall in Sochi , Russia . The 12,000-seat arena was the venue for figure skating and short track at the 2014 Winter Olympics .
Emergence
The cost of building the Iceberg Skating Palace was $ 43.9 million . This also includes the running costs for operation during the Olympic Games. The area around the hall was completely redesigned. In October 2012, a regional figure skating competition was held to test the hall, but the International Ice Skating Union found that not all conditions for the final of the 2012/2013 ISU Grand Prix Series had been met.
Grand Prix participants said they liked the venue, but spectators complained about the restricted view from the railings in the upper rows. It takes about two hours to prepare the ice if you want to switch competitions from figure skating to short track and vice versa.
Reuse
After the Olympic Games, the hall is expected to be used as an ice skating rink or cycling track .
