The Akhmat Arena ( Russian Ахмат-Арена , Спорткомплекс имени Ахмат-Хаджи Кадырова / Akhmat-Khadji Kadyrov Sports Complex) is a football stadium in the Russian city ​​of Grozny . It has space for 30,597 spectators and is the home of the Terek Grozny association .

history

The Akhmat Arena, also known as the Terek Stadium , was built between 2008 and 2011 in the city of Grozny, the capital of the Autonomous Republic of Chechnya . On May 11, 2011 the sports facility was opened with a friendly match between a team from the Caucasus and a world team. The Caucasus team played with former Russian football greats such as Rinat Dassajew and Caucasus politicians such as Alexander Chloponin and Ramsan Kadyrow , while former top footballers such as Diego Maradona , Luis Figo , Roberto Ayala , Franco Baresi and Enzo Francescoli were part of the world selection . The game ended with a 5-2 for the Caucasus team. The first league game in the Akhmat Arena rose on May 20, 2011 as part of the Russian Premjer League , when Terek Grozny received the team from Anzhi Makhachkala and won 1-0 with a goal from Blagoy Georgiev .

The Akhmat Arena is named after the Chechen politician Akhmat Kadyrov , the father of the current President of Chechnya, who died during his tenure in office on May 9, 2004 in a bomb attack during Victory Day celebrations in Grozny. The club Terek Grozny also bears his name in the club name, the club is officially called the Republican Football Club Terek Grozny called AA Kadyrov . Terek Grozny will continue to be the Achma-Arena user association in the future. The club, whose greatest success is the victory in the Russian Football Cup in 2004, currently plays in the highest football league in Russia, the Premjer League. Before the Achmat Arena was completed, Terek used the Sultan Bilimkhanov Stadium as a venue for home football matches. The old stadium, which opened in 1946, last had a capacity of 10,300 spectators, but in earlier times as well as the new arena offered space for around 30,000 spectators.
