Moscow Botanical Garden
The Nikolai Zizin Botanical Garden Moscow of the Russian Academy of Sciences ( Russian Главный ботанический сад имени Н. В. Цицина РАН ) is a park in the northeastern district of the city of Moscow in the Ostankinsky district with the Ostankino television tower and the largest botanical garden in Russia .
The 130-hectare garden was established on April 14, 1945 and belongs to the biological department of the Russian Academy of Sciences . Its first director was the biologist Nikolai Wassiljewitsch Zizin (1898–1980), whose name the complex bears today. The Botanical Garden is an extensive park based on the pattern of Russian aristocratic residences from the 18th to 19th centuries. Century; it also includes the classical ensemble of the former country estate of Count Nikolai Petrovich Sheremetev ( Ostankino Palace ). In the park itself, as well as in orangeries and arboretums , a total of over 8,200 plant species from all over the world can be viewed. In 2014 the garden was administratively incorporated into the VDNKh site .
