Dionysius Ortsiefer OFM (born November 18, 1874 in Cologne , † January 19, 1946 in Blankenstein / Ruhr ) was a German Franciscan and cathedral preacher in Münster and Cologne.

Life

On September 20, 1891, Dionysius Ortsiefer entered the Franciscan order . It belonged to the Saxon Franciscan Province of Saxonia , from 1929 to the Cologne Franciscan Province of Colonia, which was re-established that year . He was ordained priest on July 27, 1900 in Paderborn . During his work he stood from 1906 to 1911 on the pulpit in St. Paulus Cathedral in Münster and from 1913 to 1942 on the pulpit in Cologne Cathedral and in the Minorite Church, which is part of the cathedral . At the beginning of the 20th century, he was involved in the pastoral care of Polish workers in the Ruhr area in the monastery in Dortmund . During the First World War in 1917 he held a retreat for interned German soldiers in Switzerland .

The later Pope Pius XII called the Nuncio of Germany . him as the greatest speaker in Germany. In radio sermons , Father Dionysius reached a large audience with the programs Morning Celebrations and The Bedside Hour . He was a speaker at the Catholic Days in Metz (1903), Munich (1922), Hanover (1924) and Münster (1930).

Ortsiefer was a member of the Catholic student associations VKDSt Eckart Cologne, KDStV Bavaria Bonn and KDStV Staufia Bonn .
