The Anzhi Arena ( Russian Анжи́-Аре́на ), formerly the Khazar Stadium , is the football stadium of the Russian third division Anzhi Makhachkala . The arena is located in the Russian Kaspiysk in the Republic of Dagestan .
history
Before the Khazar Stadium was built, Anzhi Makhachkala had played in the Dinamo Stadium since it was founded in 1991 . After Anshi's ascent to the first division at the end of the 1999 season, the club was attracting greater attention, which is why the Dinamo stadium, which holds almost 15,000 spectators, was full. Therefore, the club's management decided to build a new stadium in Kaspiysk, about 18 km from Makhachkala . Construction began in 2001. Finally, on July 22, 2003, the Khazar Stadium was opened with a league game between Anzhi Makhachkala, who had meanwhile been relegated to the 2nd division , and FK Kuban Krasnodar . At that time the stadium offered 20,000 spectators. Due to the low number of spectators, the club moved back to the Dinamo Stadium in 2006. The reason for this was also the poor accessibility of the stadium for fans from Makhachkala who were dependent on public transport .
Renovation 2011-2013
After the Anzhi Makhachkala club (first class again since 2010) was bought up by Suleiman Abusaidowitsch Kerimov in 2011 , the Khazar Stadium was modernized by 2013 and expanded to 30,000 spectators. Since then it has been called the Anschi Arena . The first game after the renovation took place on March 17, 2013. However, the arena is only intended to be a temporary solution for a larger arena to be built.
