history

The stadium in Yaroslavl opened in 1928 after five years of construction. The facility covers an area of 101,639 m 2 and offers visitors 22,900 seats. The main stand, which is only partially covered, has 45 VIP box seats and a press stand with 69 workstations. The venue is illuminated with an illuminance of 1,200 lux from the four steel scaffolding masts of the floodlight system. In 2002 the stadium received what was, at the time, the largest video scoreboard in Russia. The renovation of the stadium began in mid-2008 with the aim of; to renew the grandstands and to roof over the main grandstand and the two curves. The opposite stand in the east lies directly on a street and cannot be enlarged or covered.

The redesign of the stadium was stopped in view of Russia's bid for the 2018 World Cup and only the south curve was completed in August 2010. The city of Yaroslavl is one of the planned venues for the World Cup tournament. Since the Schinnik Stadium would be too small even after the renovation and does not meet the changed requirements of FIFA ; plans are now being made to build a modern football stadium with a capacity of around 40,000 to 45,000 spectators.

On the new grandstand, the old seating was replaced with folding plastic seats . The video display board on the edge of the grandstand was moved to the southeast corner. The athletics track was retained and turf heating was installed under the playing field . The modern building includes the changing rooms for the teams as well as for coaches and referees. Furthermore, in the air-conditioned tier u. a. Offices, medical facilities and a doping test room, a press center for the journalists, toilets for the visitors as well as a sauna, showers and massage room, fitness studio and two warm-up areas for the teams. Outside the stadium, a heated artificial turf field was created and 500 parking spaces were created at the stadium; which can be used free of charge on match days.

On May 22, 2011, the Russian soccer cup final took place in the stadium in Yaroslavl. The CSKA Moscow defeated FC Alania Vladikavkaz with 2: 1 gates.
