The Gasovik Stadium ( Russian Газовик стадион ) is a football stadium in the Russian city of Orenburg . It has space for 4,800 spectators and serves as the home of the FK Orenburg club .

history

The Gasowik Stadium in Orenburg was built between 2001 and 2002 and opened on August 25, 2002. The city of Orenburg currently has around 550,000 inhabitants and is the capital of Orenburg Oblast in the Volga Federal District in southern Russia . The local football club FK Orenburg has played its home games here since the venue was built in 2002 . The club was founded in 1976 and played consistently in third class during the Soviet era, after the collapse of the Soviet Union even in second class for a few years, but even in fourth class for a few years. In 2004 the natural turf was replaced by an artificial turf field . A soil heating and a large display board supplemented the stadium in 2009. Since the beginning of 2010s-years the club experienced a renaissance that up to the first rise in the Premjer League , Russia's top division in football, for season 2016/17 led. Before that, FK Orenburg was the first to finish the 1st soccer division in 2015/16 before Arsenal Tula and had already secured its first promotion to the top division four game days before the end of the season.

The Gasowik Stadium, on the other hand, was built at a time when football in Orenburg was not nearly as successful as it is today. Therefore, the sports facility only has a capacity of 4,800 spectators. After the upswing of FK Orenburg, the Gasowik Stadium has been undergoing renovation since 2014, accompanied by an increase in capacity in order to meet the minimum requirements of the Premjer League. After the completion of this expansion work, the Gasowik Stadium will offer space for 8,500 spectators. FK Orenburg plays its home games in the stadium despite the construction phase. The expansion work on the Gasowik Stadium should be completed in the course of 2016. Even with a capacity of 8,500 spectators, it will still be by far the smallest stadium of the Premjer League season 2016/17.
