Choe Myong-ho (born July 3, 1988 ) is a North Korean soccer player .
Career
Choe made international appearances until 2006 as a player in the Kyonggongop Sports Group , the club of the Ministry of Light Industry. Between 2006 and 2008, Choe was one of the few North Korean-born players allowed to play abroad. During his time at the Russian first division club Krylja Sowetow Samara , he only played two competitive matches for the professional team (one each in the league and cup), mostly he played for the reserve team. In 2009 he returned to North Korea and has since represented the Pyongyang sports group .
Choe finished second with the North Korean U-17 selection at the 2004 U-17 Asian Cup and took part in the 2005 U-17 World Cup in Peru. There the most accurate scorer of his team with three tournament goals failed in the quarter-finals after extra time to Brazil. In the technical report of the tournament, Choe, who is active in the left midfield, is listed as one of the outstanding players in his team and as a technically adept who effectively takes all free kicks and corners from the right . At the end of the year, the Asian Football Association named him Young Player of the Year, and he has already been celebrated as the “Korean Ronaldo ” in the international media .
In 2006 he won the U-19 Asian Championship with the U-20 team and made four short appearances over the course of the tournament. In the final against Japan he was one of the five North Korean shooters who converted their penalty. At the subsequent U-20 World Cup in Canada in 2007 , he was not part of the squad for unknown reasons.
In 2008 he made his debut in the AFC Challenge Cup in the North Korean national team . In the 1-0 semi-final defeat by Tajikistan, he spat in the face of his opponent Davrondzhon Tukhtasunov in stoppage time and was suspended for six games. In 2009 he finished fourth with the Olympic team (U-23) at the East Asian Games in Hong Kong. Choe scored two goals in the course of the tournament and also scored on penalties in the third-place match. In February 2010, Choe won the AFC Challenge Cup in Sri Lanka with a North Korean B selection . He scored one goal in each of his two missions and, thanks to this success, helped the North Korean national team to take part in the Asian Cup for the first time since 1992.
