The Supreme League in 1992 was the first season of the Russian top division in football after the end of the Soviet Union . It was carried out as a transition game round in a two-phase game plan. The champions became Spartak Moscow , which was to dominate Russian football for a decade with nine titles in the next ten years.

The season was divided into a preliminary round with 20 game days (18 games per team) in two groups from March 29 to August 12 and a phase with championship and relegation round with eight or twelve clubs with just as many game days from 29. / 30. August to November 8th. As the number of teams in the league was reduced from 20 to 18 for the next season, the five worst-placed clubs were relegated in the end, while only three were promoted from the 1st division .

Participants were the 20 best-placed Russian clubs of the Soviet championship in the preseason :

  • the three best-placed third division teams: the champions of the East and Center Okean Nachodka and Asmaral Moscow , as well as the center runner-up Krylja Sowetow Samara (champions and runner-ups in the west were Ukrainian clubs, the runner-up east came from Turkmenistan).
