List of Soviet football champions

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Soviet Football Championship ( Russian Чемпионат СССР по футболу / Tschempionat SSSR po futbolu) took place in the Soviet Union between 1936 and 1991 with an interruption from 1941 to 1944. The highest Soviet league went through several name changes; most recently she was referred to as the "Wysschaja Liga" ( Russian Высшая лига ).

The championship was dominated in the first decades by the top Moscow clubs Dynamo Moscow and Spartak Moscow , as well as, to a lesser extent, CSKA (especially in the 40s / 50s) and Torpedo Moscow . In addition, played Dinamo Tbilisi and Dynamo Kiev regularly for the championship. Beginning in the 1960s, the dominance of the Moscow clubs decreased in favor of the "provincial teams" until Kiev became the dominant center of Soviet football in the 1970s / 1980s and outsiders were repeatedly able to play for the championship and even win it. By the 1980s at the latest, Spartak was the only sustainable top team from Moscow.

With the exception of Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan , all Union republics were represented with a club in the top division for at least one season. The champions were made up of teams from the Russian SFSR (34 titles), Ukraine (16), Georgia (2), Armenia and Belarus (1 each).

  2. According to the 2-point rule. In 1973 a draw was followed by a penalty shoot-out, only the winner received a point. From 1978–1988, the number of draws for which a team received points was limited
