The 1985 Vysschaya League was the 48th season of the highest Soviet football league. It started on March 1 and ended on November 23, 1985.

Dynamo Kiev won the Soviet football championship for the eleventh time with two points ahead of Spartak Moscow.

The 18 teams each played against each other twice. The last two teams were relegated directly, while the teams in positions 15 and 16 had to go into relegation. The number of draws for which a team received points was limited to ten draws.
