The FK FC Chornomorets Odesa ( Ukrainian ФК Чорноморець Одеса , UEFA transcription FC Chornomorets Odesa , Russian ФК "Черноморец» Одесса FK Chernomorets Odessa ; earlier in the German-speaking Black Sea Odessa ) is a Ukrainian football club from the port city of Odessa on the Black Sea .

history

Name development

The club was founded in 1936 under the name Dynamo Odessa ("Динамо" Одеса), but changed names more frequently in the following years. In 1940 he was called Chartschowyk Odessa ("Харчовик" Одеса, ukr. ), From 1941 Spartak Odessa ("Спартак" Одеса), before it was called Chartschowyk Odessa again in 1944 . In 1953 he was renamed Metalurh Odessa ("Металлург" Одеса), but the name only lasted two years. Until he gave himself its current name in 1958, it was called Chartschowyk Odessa again .

Soviet Union

The club participated as one of the representatives of the republic of Ukraine in the game operations of the Soviet league . There, third place in the 1974 season achieved the best placement and thus also the first qualification for the UEFA Cup . The first title win came in 1990 when the club was able to win the league cup by beating Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk 2-0 . According to the all-time Soviet league table , Chornomorets ranks third among all Ukrainian teams that have ever participated in the Soviet league, and 13th overall.

Ukraine

After the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1992, Chornomorets was one of the founding members of the new Wyschtscha Liha . That same year, Chornomorets won the first edition of the Ukrainian Independent Cup by beating Metalist Kharkiv 1-0 . Two years later they won the title again, this time Tawrija Simferopol was defeated on penalties .

Until the 1997/98 season Chornomorets played first class, then the club had to relegate to the second-rate Perscha Liha . Although the immediate resurgence succeeded, the following first division season, however, the club ended again on a relegation place and therefore played again in 2000/01 only in the lower house.

After a sixth place in 2001, he was promoted again as runner-up in 2002. In the Wyschtscha Liha followed with the eighth, fifth and sixth place good midfield placements. In 2006, Chornomorets even managed to return to international business by taking third place after years of abstinence. In the UEFA Cup , however, it was the end of the line in the first round with two defeats against Israeli representative Hapoel Tel Aviv .

In the 2009/10 season , the team finished 15th and penultimate place in the table and had to start again on the way to the second division. In 2011 the runner-up of the Perscha Liha was won and thus the immediate return to the Premjer-Liha was achieved. After an 8th place in the table in the 2011/12 season , the club reached 6th place in 2012/13 and qualified for the UEFA Europa League by reaching the finals in the cup competition . The cup final on May 22, 2013 against Shakhtar Donetsk was clearly lost 3-0. After victories in the qualifying rounds and the playoff round, the club reached the group stage of the 2013/14 Europa League. With the second place in his group Tschornomorez qualified for the sixteenth finals , but was eliminated there against Olympique Lyon from the competition.

Due to the political unrest in Ukraine in 2013/2014 , the players Markus Berger , Franck Dja Djedje , Pablo Fontanello , Anderson Mineiro and Sito Riera terminated their contracts almost at the same time in order to leave the country.

In the 2017/18 season , the team finished 11th and penultimate place in the table in the Ukrainian Premjer-Liha and therefore had to go into relegation (two play-off games) against the second-placed team in the Ukrainian first division, FK Poltava . In the first leg at home Chornomorets won 1-0, away in the second leg it was 1-0 for the home team from Poltava after 90 minutes . In extra time, FK Poltava scored two more goals (final score 3-0 for the Poltava team). Thus, FC Chornomorets will have to return to the second division in the 2018/19 season.
