The “Chornomorets” stadium is a football stadium in the Ukrainian port city of Odessa . Between 2008 and 2011 the sports facility was extensively rebuilt.

history

The stadium, which was built between 1936 and 1938, is mainly used for soccer games and offered 28,164 spectators. The first division team Chornomorets Odessa played their home games here from the time the club was founded until the renovation in 2008. In the 2008/09 season, the Chornomorets Odessa club moved to the Spartak Stadium with 4,800 seats for two years.

1945 to 1947, 1967 to 1968 and in 2000, the stadium in Shevchenko Park was renovated. Because the Chornomorez Stadium was to serve as a replacement stadium for the 2012 European Football Championship , the stadium was closed for renovation in 2008. With the stadium renovation it was planned to build a pure football stadium with around 33,000 covered seats. The cost of the stadium renovation amounted to around 100 million US dollars and was borne by the club owner. In 2011, the converted stadium was reopened with 34,164 seats.

From 2004 to 2007 and from 2013, with the exception of 2014, the game for the Ukrainian Football Supercup was and will be played in the stadium . In addition, three international matches for the Ukrainian national football team were played in the stadium .
