The Premjer League 2009 was the 18th season of the Russian top division in football. It started on March 14, 2009 with the game Amkar Perm against Rostov and ended on November 29, 2009. It was a summer break from June 12 to July 10.

Champion was defending champion Rubin Kazan.

Rubin Kazan started the season as defending champion . The last two clubs in the previous season , Lutsch-Energija Vladivostok and Schinnik Yaroslavl , had to relegate to the 1st division and were replaced by FK Kuban Krasnodar and FK Rostow .

    After the season

    In addition to the champions Rubin Kazan , the runner-up Spartak Moscow also took part in the 2010/11 UEFA Champions League . Zenit St. Petersburg started qualifying for this competition. Lokomotiv Moscow and CSKA Moscow took part in the play-offs of the 2010/11 UEFA Europa League .

    Anzhi Makhachkala and FK Sibir Novosibirsk were allowed to take part in the Premjer League in 2010, as they occupied the first two places in the 1st division in 2009. In contrast, FK Moscow withdrew from the top Russian league for the following season due to a lack of funds. On December 28, 2010 the dissolution of the club was announced.
