The St. Augustine University Tanzania ( en . : St. Augustine University of Tanzania (SAUT) ) is a Roman Catholic private university based in Nyegezi-Malimbe near Mwanza , Tanzania .

history

The St. Augustine University of Tanzania was founded in 1998 by Anthony Petro Mayalla , Archbishop of Mwanza, as a Catholic University . In 2002 it was officially recognized by the state. Precursor was the 1960 by the Order of the White Fathers built Nyegezi Social Training Center , in 1983 at the initiative of Bishop Joseph Blomjous renamed Nyegezi Social Training Institute (NCTS) . From 1975 the school with over 2500 pupils and students was under the patronage of the Tanzania Episcopal Conference (TEC) through Renatus Butibubage .

Name giver is Augustine of Hippo , the motto of the university is "Building the City of God". The campus is located 10 km south of Mzamba in Nyegezi-Malimbe. The approximately 3,500 students come mainly from East and Central Africa ( Kenya , Uganda , Sudan , Ethiopia , Eritrea , Burundi , Malawi and Zambia ).
