Ntuthuko Macbeth-Mao Sibaya (born November 25, 1977 in Durban ) is a former South African football player . The midfielder took part in the 2002 World Cup and won championship titles in Norway and Russia .

Club career

Sibaya began his professional career in the 1998/99 season with the Hungarian first division club III. Kerületi TUE , which he left after relegation in 1999 and returned to his homeland, where he joined Jomo Cosmos . After his participation in the 2002 World Cup, he was signed by the Norwegian top club Rosenborg Trondheim , for which he came to four part appearances when winning the national championship.

In March 2003, before the start of the season, Sibaya left Rosenborg again and moved to the Russian first division promoted Rubin Kazan . After several good league placements, which led the club to the UEFA Cup and UI Cup , the championship was the biggest success in the club's history in the 2008 season. As in previous seasons, Sibaya was one of the regulars in the defensive midfield. After being used sporadically in 2010, he returned to South Africa in early 2011 and signed a contract with the Moroka Swallows .

National team

Sibaya made his debut on February 25, 2001 in a World Cup qualifier against Malawi under Carlos Queiroz in the South African national team . In 2002 and 2004 he was part of the squad at the African Cup of Nations, made a brief appearance in the quarter-finals in 2002, and in 2004 he had no playing time.

In the summer of 2002, Jomo Sono , who was also his trainer at Jomo Cosmos , nominated him for the World Cup in Japan and South Korea. He played together with Teboho Mokoena in the defensive midfield of Bafana Bafana and, according to the technical report, was one of the outstanding players of his team, but could not prevent the preliminary round.

In 2010, he was nominated for the squad for the soccer World Cup in his own country. He was not used in the first two group games. In the last group game, the 2-1 win over France, he played the entire season. However, this victory could not prevent the preliminary round.
