Season course
Rosenborg BK won the Norwegian championship for the eleventh time in a row. It was also the 17th championship for the team.
The season was characterized by two different rounds: The preliminary round was dominated by Lyn Oslo (record: 10 wins, 1 draw, 2 defeats). By the 14th day of play, they had a seven point lead over the competition. But in the second half of the season the team could only win four times and quickly lost the lead to Rosenborg BK, who had started badly. They were seven points behind after the preliminary round, and even ten points after the 14th matchday. But then they won seven games in a row, while Lyn Oslo only reached eight points. From matchday 18, Rosenborg BK led. But Molde FK also played a good season and stayed with both teams with a balanced round-trip. Only on the penultimate match day Rosenborg was able to secure the championship. Molde finished second and qualified for the UEFA Cup , as did third-placed Lyn Oslo .
The newly promoted Vålerenga Oslo won the cup. It was the third overall victory after 1980 and 1997. Of the promoters, only Vålerenga Oslo could hold on to the Tippeligaen . IK Start, on the other hand, had to relegate to the 1st division.
