Erik Nevland (born November 10, 1977 in Stavanger ) is a former Norwegian national football player .

Club career

Erik Nevland comes from the youth team at Viking Stavanger , the largest football club in his hometown of Stavanger . In the 1996 season, the only 19-year-old only played one league. In the end, his team finished third and qualified for the 1997/98 UEFA Cup . There, however, they failed because of the Swiss from Neuchâtel Xamax in the second qualifying round. In the 1997 season, the young striker Nevland made 13 season appearances and scored 5 goals. This aroused the interest of other European clubs and so the Norwegian moved to England like many other Scandinavian football players. As a young talent at the traditional club Manchester United , however, he was not able to assert himself and came only to one use. In the meantime, he has been loaned back to Viking Stavanger and the Swedish record champions IFK Göteborg to collect match practice . In 2000 Nevland finally decided to return to his home country and became an absolute top player at Viking Stavanger. In the first season after his return, he scored 14 goals in 20 games and was thus significantly involved in the good third place in the table. In the following 2001/02 UEFA Cup , his team failed in the second round at Hertha BSC .

In the 2001 season Nevland again scored 14 goals, almost a third of the entire team. Stavanger finished third again and qualified for the 2002/03 UEFA Cup . There it was again the Norwegian striker who, with his two goals, played a key role in Viking's victory over Chelsea and thus sealed the elimination of the glorious English club. At this time, the Norwegian club first gained more attention in the European football business, even if it failed a round later on the Spanish representative Celta Vigo . In 2002 and 2003, the striker scored 17 goals for the club, but Viking failed to qualify for an international competition. In 2004 Nevland then moved to the Dutch honor division club FC Groningen . The Norwegian immediately established himself as a regular player and scored 16 goals in 19 games in the first season. Together with Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and Blaise Nkufo , he was fourth in the scorers list, but Groningen did not get beyond 12th place in the table. In the 2005/06 season he reached 5th place in the table with his club and thus qualification for the 2006/07 UEFA Cup . Before the start of the group stage, however, Groningen failed at the Serbian club FK Partizan Belgrade . Erik Nevland made it into the top ten of the Dutch goalscorer list again in 2006/07 with 13 goals this season. Groningen finished eighth and qualified again for the 2007/08 UEFA Cup . But the club failed to make it into the group stage and lost to Fiorentina on penalties.

During the winter break of the 2007/08 season, Nevland moved to English club Fulham for 2.5 million euros . Because the club did not relegate in the 2007/08 Premier League, another 500,000 euros were due later. The Norwegian played his first game for Fulham on February 3, 2008 in a 2-1 home win against Aston Villa . However, he didn't score his first goal for the new club until more than 2 months later. In the 2-0 away win over Reading FC Nevland came on for David Healy in the 83rd minute and then scored the 2-0 in stoppage time. During the season he reached 7th place in the table with Fulham, qualifying for the first-ever UEFA Europa League . With Fulham, Nevland surprisingly made it to the final of the UEFA Europa League, where Nevland came on for Damien Duff in the 84th minute . However , he could not prevent the final defeat (1: 2 after extra time against Atlético Madrid ). The final was Nevland's last game for Fulham. He moved back to Norway on a free transfer and signed on to his hometown club Viking Stavanger .
