The League of Ireland 2001/02 was the 81st season of the top Irish football league . It began on August 9, 2001 and ended on March 31, 2002. The defending champion was Bohemians Dublin .

Shelbourne FC won the championship for the tenth time.

    1 St Patrick's Athletic was deducted 9 points for the use of unapproved Paul Marney in the first three rounds. However, an arbitration tribunal reversed this decision and an appeal by Shelbourne FC was dismissed. On March 22, 2002, the team was deducted 15 points because they had used the unregistered Charles Mbabazi Livingstone during the first five games .
