A Grupa 2000/01

The A Grupa 2001/02 was the 78th season of the highest Bulgarian football league . The season started on August 3, 2001 and ended on May 30, 2002.

Champion was defending champion Levski Sofia .

mode

In contrast to previous seasons, the season was carried out in a two-stage format. In the regular season each of the 14 teams competed against each other twice; once at home and once away. At the end of this phase, the six best teams qualified for the championship round, the bottom eight played off three relegated teams in the relegation round.

    The six best-placed clubs in the preliminary round reached the championship round, which was not only about the championship but also about the international places in the European Cup . The champions qualified for the Champions League and the two teams in second and third for the UEFA Cup .
