The A Grupa 1961/62 was the 38th season of the highest Bulgarian football league . ZDNA Sofia became champion for the ninth time in a row and for the twelfth time.

mode

The 14 teams played against each other twice on a total of 26 match days, divided into a first and a second round. At the end of the season, the two bottom of the table played with the 3rd and 4th of the B Grupa in a simple relegation round for two starting places for the following season. The league was increased to 16 clubs for the following season.
