from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The FC Spartak Plovdiv ( Bulgarian ФК Спартак Пловдив ) is a Bulgarian football club from the city of Plovdiv . The club currently plays in V Grupa Süd-Ost, the third Bulgarian league. The club's nickname is "Die Gladiatoren" (Gladiatorite).

history

The club was founded in 1947. The 1950s and 1960s were the "golden times" for Spartak Plovdiv, when they were once Bulgarian champions and once cup winners. In 1967 Spartak was merged with SSK Akademik and Botew Plovdiv to form a new club -AFD Trakia-. In 1982 Spartak was re-established and played in the second and third division until 1994. After a 27-year hiatus, Spartak returned to excellence in 1994, which, however, could only be maintained for two years. Between 1998 and 2002 the association was called after another merger, this time with Komatevo Sokol`94, Spartak-S`94.
