The B Grupa ( Bulgarian "Б" Професионална футболна група B profesionalna futbolna grupa ) is the second highest professional Bulgarian football league after the A Grupa .
Game mode
The league consists of 17 teams that play against each other twice in one season. In the event of a tie, the direct comparison decides. The first placed will be promoted directly to the A Grupa , the second and third can also be promoted through the play-offs. The last three teams are relegated to the third division .
history
In 1950 the B Grupa was founded. At that time only 14 teams played in this league. After the 2004/2005 season, the league was divided into an east and west group with 16 teams each, which were reduced to 12 after the 2009/2010 season. Since several teams gave up their participation in the championship in the middle of the season due to financial problems during the 2010/2011 season, B Grupa East was able to end the season with only 8 teams. After the season, the Bulgarian Football Association decided to reduce the two groups to 10 teams each. In order to reach the number of 10 teams in the B Grupa Ost, it was decided to hold a relegation game between the second best teams of the W Grupa Nordost ( Septemwri Terwel ) and W Grupa Südost ( FK Neftochimik ) and Etar Veliko Tarnowo from the B Grupa Ost in the B to take Grupa West with you. The relegation game was won 0: 1 by FK Neftochimik on June 26, 2011, which means that they will play again in professional football.
Recurring financial difficulties of clubs in the years 2006 to 2011 meant that teams repeatedly stopped participating in professional football in the middle of the season. Thereupon the Bulgarian Football Association decided in the winter break of 2011/12 to reunite the two groups East and West. This means that only one B group with 16 teams was held from the 2012/13 season.
