The B Grupa 1978/79 was the 30th season of the second highest Bulgarian football league. It began on August 12, 1978 and ended on June 16, 1979.

The 40 teams were geographically divided into two groups. They competed against each other twice on 38 match days, divided into a first half and a second half. The two group winners were promoted to the A Grupa . The last three clubs were relegated from the north group, the last two teams from the south group.
