Slivnitsa (also Slivnitsa or Sliwnica written Bulgarian Сливница ) is a city in western Bulgaria . The city is the administrative center of the municipality of the same name in Sofia Oblast . Slivnitsa is located in the western part of the Sofia plain on European route 80 , about 30 km northwest of the Bulgarian capital Sofia . The towns of Kostinbrod and Dragoman are nearby .
During the Serbian-Bulgarian War of 1885/86 (also known as the "War of the [Bulgarian] NCOs against the [Serbian] Generals" ) , the decisive battle of Slivnitsa took place west of the city at the Slivnitsa uprisings , from which the Bulgarian Army emerged victorious.
