Gambrinus League 2000/01

The Gambrinus League 2001/02 was the ninth season of the top Czech league in football . It was held from July 28, 2001 to May 10, 2002 with a winter break from December 1, 2001 to February 7, 2002.

16 teams played against each other twice on a total of 30 match days, divided into a first half and a second half.

On the last day of the match there was a long-distance duel between Slovan Liberec and FK Viktoria Žižkov . While Slovan lost the game at Bohemians Prague 1: 2, Viktoria held a 0-0 at Slavia Prague until four minutes before the final whistle and was first in the table at that time. Then Pavel Kuka destroyed the hope of Viktorka for the first championship title with his goal to the 1-0 victory for Slavia . The won Slovan Liberec with a point ahead of the champions of the past five years, Sparta Prague .

Slovan Liberec and runner-up Sparta Prague qualified for the Champions League . Cup winners FK Viktoria Žižkov , FK Marila Příbram , Slovan Liberec and SK Sigma Olmütz via the fair play classification played in the UEFA Cup . FK Teplice , FC Stavo Artikel Brno and 1. FC SYNOT started in the Intertoto Cup .

SFC Opava was relegated to the Druhá fotbalová liga , while FK Drnovice had to join the MSFL due to financial problems .
