The FC Hradec Králové is a Czech football club from the north-east Bohemian town of Hradec Králové , which since the season 2017/18 in the second league Czech Republic, Fotbalová národní league plays.

Club history

The association was founded in 1905 as SK Hradec Králové.

In 1919, the team won in the East Bohemian Gau and took part in the final round of the Czech football championship, but lost all three games. In 1922 SK Hradec Králové reached the final of the Czech championship, but lost 7-0 in the final against Sparta Prague . In 1930 the club reached the final round of the Czechoslovak amateur championship, but failed in the first round.

In 1934, the team only narrowly failed to move up to the first division, which only succeeded after the Second World War in 1955 under the name Spartak Hradec Králové. After only two seasons, the team rose again in 1958, but managed to get promoted again immediately.

In 1959/60 Spartak Hradec Králové was sensationally promoted to Czechoslovak football champions . In the European Cup , the team failed in the second round with 0: 4 and 1: 1 at FC Barcelona . Spartak was unable to build on this success and rose again in 1964, but rose again after only one year, followed immediately by the next descent. 1972/73 the club gave another one-year guest appearance in the first division.

In 1975 Hradec Králové even went down to the 3rd division, in which they only finished eleventh in 1975/76. 1977 succeeded in returning to the second highest division. In 1980 the team managed to return to the first division, but again only for one season. 1983 Spartak fell back into the 3rd division, which he was able to leave after only one year up. In 1988/89 they played for a year in the first division, in which they could fix themselves for a long time from 1990 onwards. In 1995 SK Hradec Králové had a big surprise when they won the Czech Football Cup . In the European Cup Winners' Cup , Hradec Králové was eliminated in the round of 16 after penalties against Dynamo Moscow .

In 2000 the SK said goodbye to the first division, but managed to get promoted again after only one season. The next relegation followed in 2003. Then the club, renamed FC Hradec Králové in 2005, played in the 2nd league, before being promoted to the Gambrinus league as the second division champions in the 2009/10 season . After relegation again in 2013, the direct rise followed a year later.
