Jiří Hledík (born April 19, 1929 in Pardubice , † April 25, 2015 ) was a Czechoslovak football player . He took part in the World Cup in 1954 , in the 1st Czechoslovak League he played a total of 230 games and scored ten goals.

Career

Jiří Hledík started playing football at Slavoj Pardubice , where his three brothers also played. Hledík started out as a striker but later retired to midfield. In 1952 he was drafted into the Air Force and played for Křídla vlasti Olomouc for two years .

On October 25, 1953, the tall Hledík was used for the first time in the Czechoslovak national team . In 1954 he took part in the World Cup in Switzerland , Czechoslovakia was eliminated without a win in the preliminary round.

In 1955 he played for the army club ÚDA Prague , where he played in the central defensive position or as a libero . After one season, Jiří Hledík moved to Sparta Prague , where he stayed until 1958. His strongest appearances in the national team had the strong header Hledík on May 20 and August 5, 1956 in the 4-2 victory over Hungary and in the 1-0 victory against Brazil .

When his wife had health problems in 1958, Hledík wanted to move to Spartak Hradec Králové , but Sparta Prague did not give him clearance. Hledík went to Hradec Králové anyway and was banned for a year. Although he was able to train with his new team, he missed out on participation in the 1958 World Cup , among other things . From a sporting point of view, he shouldn't regret his move, Spartak Hradec Králové became Czechoslovak football champion in 1960. Until 1966, Hledík often played as captain for Spartak 122 first division games, in which he scored nine goals. Also the participation in the 1962 World Cup missed Hledík after he was sent off during a club tour and then suspended. The 1: 3 against Sweden on April 7, 1962 was his last of a total of 28 international matches.

After his farewell game on June 29, 1966, Jiří Hledík was active for two years as a player-coach for the B-team of Spartak Hradec Králové. He spent the season 1968/69 with ZAZ Jaroměř , his career he ended with TIBA Dvůr Králové .
