Karel Urbánek (born April 16, 1972 in Turnov , Czechoslovakia , † May 11, 2007 in Prague ) was a Czech football player .
Urbánek played 167 games in the Czechoslovak and Czech leagues, in 1995 he won the Czech Cup with SK Hradec Králové . For the Czechoslovak U21 team, the defender played three games between 1992 and 1993.
Career
Karel Urbánek began playing football at Sklostroj Turnov before moving to Slovan Liberec at the age of 14 . In 1991 the defender went to SK Hradec Králové , where he made the jump to the first team. In the following years Urbánek was part of the regular formation and won the Czech Cup with his club in 1995 . In the final against Viktoria Žižkov he had to be replaced eight minutes before the end of the game due to an injury.
For the 1998/99 season Urbánek moved to Petra Drnovice . At the beginning of 1999 he went to the first Russian league in Nizhny Novgorod and was thus the first Czech legionnaire in Russia . Although he played regularly, he left the Russian league after only one year due to poor conditions and then played briefly for FK Jablonec . In the 2000/01 season he was with the Slovak club 1. FC Košice under contract, but was rarely used. In winter 2001/02 Karel Urbánek went to the Czech third division club Slovan Varnsdorf , where he ended his career.
In 2005, Karel Urbánek cancer diagnosed on May 11, 2007, he died in Prague of his illness.
